I'm super excited to announce Soap for a Cause. I believe it is important to give back and do what you can to help make the world a better place. I've wanted to use my skill as a soap maker to help charities, foundations, local food pantries, shelters, basically anyone in need, but I could never quite figure out exactly how I could use my soap making skills to do so--until recently.

Soap for a Cause will be a bi-annual event. Twice a year (August and February) I will choose two different charities that help those in need (whether it's through research, providing a service, helping educate, or helping people in need in some meaningful way). I will make a series of themed soaps and 100% of the profit will be donated to that charity. If it's possible for me to donate actual products (on top of the soap sales) or donate my time in some way I will also do that. And hopefully, in some small way, it will help make a difference.

The first Soap for a Cause will donate all the profits to the Cameron Boyce Foundation and their goal to help find a cure for epilepsy.

Why did I pick the Cameron Boyce Foundation as my first Soap for a Cause?  Cameron Boyce was the young actor who played Carlos in the Descendants movies (based off the books by Melissa de la Cruz).  I first read the “Isle of the Lost” series when it was published and soon after watched the Descendants movie. I loved them both.  Recently, I've been able to read the books and watch the movies with my nieces and it's created a whole new set of memories I'll cherish. Together we're letting our imaginations take flight--it's magical what a book/movie can inspire.  Carlos and Evie were my favorite characters from the start and there was something about Cameron's portrayal of Carlos that just made an impact on me. I can't even put words to describe it, but when I learned of his passing and the work being done by the CBF this felt 100% right to be my first Soap for a Cause. Cameron Boyce is a role model for young kids and I hope that my nieces and all the young boys and girls out there can be inspired by the work he did.

All the soaps in this release will be based off the villain kid characters from the Descendants movies. I had a lot of fun making the soaps and making each one special to the character they represent.

We can all change the world. Remember one small change done by many can make a difference!

Links and Additional Information on Epilepsy

What is Epilepsy? “A neurological disorder marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance, loss of consciousness, or convulsions, associated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain. These abnormal activities are known as seizures and are not caused by a temporary underlying medical condition such as a high fever.

Epilepsy can affect people in very different ways. This is because there are many causes and many different kinds of seizures. Some people may have multiple types of seizures or other medical conditions in addition to epilepsy. These factors play a major role in determining both the severity of the person’s condition and the impact it has on his or her life.” (Source: A Hero for Epileptics)

Fact 1: 1 in 26 people in the United States will develop epilepsy at some point in their lifetime, and more than half of people with epilepsy continue to have seizures despite being currently treated.

Fact 2: 2.5 to 3 Million people in the US have epilepsy.
